This residential/retail project had a need to enhance the common areas and walkways to encourage interaction between the residential occupants and the retail shoppers & diners. A softly colored Sandcrete finished concrete paving was chosen to fit with the calming experience desired on the plaza areas. Also a large ominous concrete vent structure in the middle of the plaza had to be dealt with. The solution was to clad it in stone and include a sheet water component on the side. The effect achieved was to turn the vent into a multi sensory experience and essentially hide the “big box.”
